Sit Down, Shut Up

April 19th, 2009

I used to be a fan of the Simpsons, I’m still a fan of Family Guy…I throw this out there as only to say it’s not a partisan thing that made me dislike the new Fox Cartoon Sit Down, Shut Up. I had really high hopes for the show: Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Will Forte. It was the cast of Arrested Development, with a little extra…and then the “how to make stupid people laugh” jokes come out.

If you’re a Televsion show, the Daily Show and Bill Maher crowd has shown us that jokes don’t need to be funny, they just need, “Blah blah blah Bush blah blah blah stupid Christian blah blah Palin.” Look, I can deal with the overt liberalness of Family Guy, because it’s funny…but this, this just wasn’t funny…it was dumb. Sometimes dumb shows make it…I can pretty much guarantee this one is Universally not funny. Writers have become lazy in the Republican power years.

Drew Hastings

November 18th, 2008

It was (is) a late night at work as I monitor imports into our financial reporting system…and I’ve been watching stand up films on Netflix…and at the top of “you will like” on my “watch it now” list is comedian Drew Hastings’ special “Irked and Miffed”.

I’d seen it on Comedy Central before, and I forgot how good it was…slow build and honest. So, I decided to do some googling (it’s late) and I happened upon his blog here

I found this post on November 11th entitled “Pooling Tips”.

If you want to know America’s New Direction, ask a good waitress about pooling tips. A good waitress will tell you they hate it. The restaurant takes the money that the good waitress has hustled and worked hard for, and gives it to the slacker waitress who comes in late to work and gets high out by the dumpster on her break.

The restaurant does this when the slacker waitresses start complaining that “it’s not fair”, when they see the good waitress working fast and efficiently and making more money than them. The restaurant owner doesn’t want to keep re-hiring, so he decides to pool tips. Then the good waitresses get discouraged because it makes no difference or sense to work harder any more and they quit.

Service goes down.

Restaurant closes because customers sense shoddy service and slacker workers treat them like they’re doing them a favor by serving them.

That, is redistribution of wealth.

That is Socialism taken down to an everyday level.

Heh…

I’m not assuming he’s a conservative…because his comedy has very Libertarian lean…but I wanted to link to it.

So to Drew Hastings…you were noticed…love the comedy…

TV of the Week

September 23rd, 2008

Yes, It’s Premier Week (Month).

Here’s my abbreviated thoughts so far, feel free to jump in:

Heroes:
The magic is gone. It’s just not doing anything for me anymore. Sidenote: the bad government guys are going to be Republican.

House:
Good so far. I like the new character…the PI guy.

Fringe:
This could be the next great show…Ep 1 great, Ep 2…not so great…Ep 3 on commercial break right now.

How I Met Your Mother:
The laugh track really bothers me.

That’s all for now.

Lunch Hour – Thoughts on Wimps

Why Republicans Have Balls.

Republicans to Chris Matthews – Bring It

Democrats to Fox News – AHHHHHHHHHHH!

“Why is it that the Democrats wouldn’t even go on Fox, but we Republicans are happy to sit there and have Chris Matthews of the Carter administration, former chief of staff to (ex-House speaker) Tip O’Neill?” asked Romney, in a Tuesday evening interview here with The Politico. “We’re happy to sit there and have him dish questions to us, but they won’t even go on Fox.”

To Deathklok or Not To Deathklok

November 28th, 2006

Usually when you look something up on Amazon it will take you to a “did you want” or “this is similar to” page.

amazon.jpg

If your resolution isn’t up to par…the search is “Deathklok” from the fantastic show on Adult Swim “Metalocalypse“, and although the real spelling of the band is “DETHKLOK”…what would such a search on Amazon produce?

hasselhoff.jpg

I’m confused, and slightly embarrassed for having looked on the image of the Hasselhoff without being ready for it. Usually there are candles, some German pseudo-techno, and tears involved. Try it yourself…is there a Cartoon Network equivalent of a Google bomb going on here…hmmmmmm…

For those who haven’t seen Metalocalypse…do yourself a favor…do see it…on television. It’s the disconnected short humor of Brendon Small that helped make his show Home Movies popular.

Random for the Sake of Conversation

November 15th, 2006

Television is becoming an unusual monster. Some fantastic shows that are being produced with movie quality effects and actor, and then you’re really…really…really crappy ideas for shows as well. Reality TV has morphed into the fat chick of the network, after a few drinks what started as you watching the CSI episode you recorded with your ever so fancy DVR ends up somehow as you sitting eyes bloodshot, watching the never ending replays of “The Flava of Love” or “Hogan Knows Best” (which it turns out is not in fact just a title of a show, but an accepted universal truth brother).

I acknowledge that I watch too much TV…but it’s better than the too much computer I use. The wife gets agitated when I lean over the computer browsing news stories, muttering about how liberals are truly trying to destroy America from the inside out. Why don’t they love this country? But I digress…

The point of the conversation that I intend to have here is two fold…readers and casual visitors alike, I now propose questions to for us to address as a Light Box addled community.

What is the most entertaining network on Television?
What are your top 3 television shows?
What are the networks doing wrong?

This discussion in not meant to be an analysis of news corporations, as Liberals and Conservatives alike all agree that Fox News is truly the only fair and balanced news source out there, but instead, an outlet for likes and dislikes in the shared media experience.

I encourage Lost Theories, Heroes praising…and how Dexter may be the next best cable show. I know nothing of 24…so feel free to praise Jack Bauer, but I will only be confused and slackjawed if the conversation turns that way…Chinese who took who? What?

Carry on minions…

Fox Syndrome

November 2nd, 2006

Not Fox News you nutty liberal kooks…Michael J….

The Rush/Fox debate is one of the most innane “circle jerks” (to quote GoingThere) I’ve heard about lately…and it’s one where I’m not going to say Fox is right, or Rush is right, because I don’t care about that aspect…it’s petty, and frankly you can’t criticize Fox because he has a disease, so in classic Sheehan style, if you attack his view, you attack him personally.

My stance on this issue is where it always has been. Who cares about the “Morality” of the issue…it shouldn’t enter into it. In California we were going to state sponsor stem cell research…why? Capitalism dictates that if it’s a good idea, and there’s an avenue that involves Commercial investment, business will get involved. Why is this something that the public sector is dabbling in? Why is the government going to use our tax dollars to research something that if there real legitimate opportunity (and there may be) for medical advancement, should be left to the private sector? It’s not the government’s job to advance and fund such things…it the medical communities job, and if there’s money to be made (as long as Democrats still allow companies to make money) they’ll be there…trust me.

We distort the issues with anecdotal stories and misleading ads. In Fox’s case, if the proposition in question involves cloning, inform the people exactly what it is, don’t pull on the heartstrings to get your way. And while Fox admits he didn’t read the bill he was promoting, I do admire him stepping forward on this issue, it’s his right…but step forward, and it gives others free license to smack you around a bit…though the smacking might take extra effort, Fox is pretty good at the “Bob and Weave”…(*groan*)

Holy Crap…did that come out of my mouth. Where’s a puppy I can kick?
