Ron Paul, the Texas congressman who is the darling of the libertarian right, has more earmarks in the pork-laden $410-billion spending bill than any other Republican.
…
“The principle of the earmark is our responsibility. We’re supposed to — it’s like a — a tax credit. And I vote for all tax credits, no matter how silly they might seem. If I can give you any of your money back, I vote for it. So if I can give my district any money back, I encourage that. But because the budget is out of control, I haven’t voted for an appropriation in years — if ever. . . .”
He goes on to say it’s only 1%, and if he doesn’t spend it, then the big bad executive branch will.
That kinda sounds like, “I can do it because I’m one of the good guys, they can’t because they’re bad.” How-a-bout this…no one spends the 1%, and we cut taxes by that little amount…and then we cut entitlement programs…then we cut arts endowments…there’s savings everywhere!!
Rangel is at it again….Democrats are proposing a draft as one of their first points of business, and this isn’t the first time he’s done so. Wondering if MTV is going to do the scaremongering they did in the 04 election now, except actually be fair and shift it towards the left. There is not a lot of wiggle room on this…and while I’m sure some may agree with his motivation, is this what Democrats really want? Compulsory military service? I’m pro-Military, and while serving one’s nation is one of the most honorable things an American can do…I’m against this…I think every staunch conservative is against this. Giving one’s life or serving this country should be a choice…not a requirement. It’s going to be interesting to see if Dems eat their own on this one…doubtful…but one can wish.
I guess this should also be called, “How Republicans Are Planning For 08″.
Truth Laid Bare is compiling the questions and policies that need to be answered by the GOP leadership…questions like my favorites:
What is your position on immigration? Specifically: 1. Are you in favor of funding and building the 700 mile fence on the Southern border? 2. Do you support stronger enforcement of criminal laws and civil sanctions against employers who hire illegal immigrants? 3. Are you for or against an expanded guest worker program and how/when would you implement such a program? 4. Do you support amnesty for illegal immigrants currently living in the US and, if so, what specific provisions do you support?
And…
Are you willing to stand up for and further the conservative agenda even if President is opposed to it?
And…
Do you have the integrity to put the conservative agenda ahead of your personal agenda?
So here’s my question: In a current environment where Iran has proclaimed it’s right to pursue Nuclear Technology, and North Korea is firing Nuclear Missiles, are you as elected Republicans going to allow the Democrats to cut funding for missile defense, as they have historically done in the past? Nancy Pelosi – “The United States does not need a multi-billion-dollar national missile defense against the possibility of a nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile.”
Now is a GREAT time for the Conservative base to put together a point by point positive list of what it is that we need to do, and what it is that we stand for. The GOP leadership needs to understand that you can’t make everyone happy, and you can’t get everyone’s support, even in your own party, on every issue. They need to understand that if they get most of it right, we will support them. We want what will be considered the greatest good for this nation, not just single issues that we get fired up about. Leave the “Hot Button” shit to the Democrats who have to work off of emotion, because they can’t offer anything headier.
What’s the worst that can happen…really…we might lose the majority in both the House and the Senate?! That’s crazy talk.
After reading about the reactions of our favorite countries to our newest election, I was just thrilled. Giddy, really, to know that Europe and the Middle East are happy with the change in power. Go figure, our Cuban and Middle Eastern enemies actually prefer we have a Dem controlled government than a Republican one. Well, I’m so glad that Castro is happy. It makes me warm inside. It is our goal to be popular, isn’t it? Unfortunately, I think that the other countries now see our Star Spangled Banner as more yellow than anything else.
I might be new to all of this, since I only became interested in politics after avoiding indoctrination at a California State University, but I think this is the right opportunity for us. We were beat in the house, and we were beat bad enough to take a step back and say, “Where did we go wrong.” As said amateur, my two cents may be hardly that, but we got cocky. We got fat, happy, comfortable, and started taking our position of power lightly. We didn’t take any risks, and we just slid along simply because we were in power, and it was good. We need to take risks, whether those be social security, border control, aggressive tax cuts or restructuring…but we forgot it was the promise that we would take these risks that got us into power, and it was our unwillingness to stick to those promises that helped us lose this.
Let’s use this opportunity now to start the 08 campaign, and let’s have more than rhetoric, let’s have action, aggressive action and campaigning on real conservative values.
The discourse I’m sure will be enchanting over the next two years.
I hate exit polls, and since I’m no pollster, or even a professional at deciphering media stats and context, I’ll leave you with this.
Guitar Hero 2
Released today! While the rest of you saps are glued to the television wondering if the GOP will tank (hoping not), I’ll be “shredding” on my fake guitar to classic and modern rock tunes. Long live the adapted video game air guitar.
Also released today for the X-Box 360…Gears of War (fans know, non-gamers don’t care, so no need for a link here).
Today is indeed a good day for the video gamers. A good day. Have a pizza, and let your blood pressure spiral out of control for an issue other than the election, but because as we all know “the computer cheats” when you’re at an end boss. Besides, 25% of people are retarded anyways, and about 23.2% of them vote Democrat. As said by Kaus at Slate (H/T HotAir):
Just asking: What does it tell you about a political party if in a year of epic disaster for their opponents the best they can hope for is a 51-49 majority in the Senate? … 8:21 A.M.
The sky may be falling, but the world isn’t ending.
We hear a lot of boohooing about voter fraud and disenfranchisement… but if history has shown us anything, it’s not our side of the aisle to fear…or there are always allegations against the GOP, but it never ends up being as real as those against the DEMS.
In precincts 7, 19, 51 in Philly, PA, the crowds are going wild. Inside several voting locations, individuals have poured white out onto the polling books and the poll workers are allowing voters to go into the polls and vote without first registering. Several individuals are on hand demanding that voters vote straight Democrat.
RNC lawyers have headed to the scene of the incidents, which are occurring in mostly hispanic precinct locations. The District Attorney has also been contacted.
More from the ground: Reports of voter intimidation by son-in-law of Philadelphia City Commissioner in 19th Ward. Carlos Mantos is not allowing Republican poll watchers with valid poll-watching certificates monitor polling places.
I’m guessing there won’t be a NY Times story about how people tried to steal the election in Philadelphia…heck, there was little coverage of the Milwaukee 5, one of which was the son of a Democratic congresswoman. Michelle is recommending you bring a camera just in case. California, I don’t see this being a problem because there’s little chance a Feinstein or Boxer will ever be at risk, but other areas…definitely a possibility of Democrat fraud. Reminds me of the Hugh Hewitt book. For conservatives to be successful in elections, we have to blow them out of the water, because if they can’t win fairly, it’s off to the courts. Voter intimidation is alive and well.
Now we hold our breath and count down…is the GOP going to keep the house? If they do, I hope it’s by a razor thin margin, just so that they learn it’s high time they start acting like Conservatives in office. It’s not that they aren’t middle enough for the country, it’s that they are “right” enough in rhetoric, but not in action. I suppose this is the electoral equivelant of a “Godsmack” if they lose it.
…Pelosi focused her public comments on the Democrats’ domestic plans, should they win, for the first 100 legislative hours (raise the minimum wage, cut interest rates on student loans, roll back subsidies to oil companies, boost stem cell research, strengthen homeland security).
