Where is Sean Penn When You Need Him
The Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, today threatened to strip the country’s industrialists of their assets if they continued to oppose his indefinite presidency.
It’s a shame that for with all the bitching and moaning we hear from our favorite Hollywood elites about Domestic issues…they always fall silent when real tyranny happens. Could you imagine the outrage and handwringing if George Bush were to announce he wanted an indefinite Presidency (in the name of the Revoluntion of course) and threatened to steal the assets of anyone who might challenge such an action?
I suppose it’s okay if you say that you do it for the poor though…if you wave that flag, all things are allowed. Ignore the fact that the poor in Venezuela are the result of the very government that purports to represent them. I see Chavez as the Joker in the Original Batman Movie…just waving his dollars, getting the proletariate to love him, and then gassing the dissidents, all while Price plays in the background.
The great thing about Dictators, is if you can promise something for nothing, people will support you…most people want something for nothing, especially if they have nothing to offer.
I’m a believer in Free Market Capitalism…Objectivist style. It’s bothersome to not only see a nanny state in action (thank you Hillary), but to see people ignore what the logical conclusion of that nanny state is (read Venezuela)…it usually ends in poverty, bloodshed, revolution, reform, forgetting the lessons of the past, rinse, and repeat. I love to hear people who have no real concept of history complain that we never learn the lessons it teaches. Once someone starts telling you, they know what’s better for you than you do, then there a real problem. If we can’t tolerate it from strangers…why do we tolerate it from our government?
How is it that what Hollywood is so vocal about the state of the US of A, and then they give a free pass to portly pseudo-intellectuals…as long as they call Bush “el Diablo“? Yes, I get it Mr. Penn, he probably had some fantastic blow, and inundated you with Hookers…but that doesn’t mean he’s a good guy.
