From Arthur Keostler’s Darkness at Noon:
“They dreamed of power with the object of abolishing power; of ruling over people to wean them of the habit of being ruled.”
Good literature is hard to come by.
As an aside: anyone who believes that 1984 is a condemnation of Republicans, or conservatives…probably last read it when they were 15, and still angry at their parents for all the rules…man.

From Letters to a Young Contrarian:
“Another observation from antiquity has it that, while courage is not in itself one of the primary virtues, it is the quality that makes the exercise of the virtues possible.”
I may disagree with Hitchens on many subjects, especially those regarding the religiousity of America as a positive, but the man is one of the most brilliant thinkers in modern history.

I’m hopefully going to do some reading as I take the train home this weekend to visit the Parental Units. I could drive, but through LA…on the 405…on a Friday afternoon….HA!
Book I’m currently working on:
The Yiddish Policemen’s Union: A Novel
by Michael Chabon.
Books I need to finish: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
by David Eggers and Unintended Consequences
by John Ross.
It high time I start reading more, and playing music. I have a sweet Gibson SG that I haven’t touched in months, and I think my Telecaster forgot who I am.
Any suggestions on books? I’m going to stick to fiction, so none of this “How Bush Destroyed the World” crap.
