So Biden is bashing Walmart…seems to be the tried and true method of the left when there’s little else they can rationally talk about, bash Walmart.
“My problem is that I don’t see any indication they care about the fate of middle-class people,” Biden said.
Why Wal-Mart? Biden said it’s because the retailer is the biggest.
They don’t care about middle class fate? Since when is a corporation supposed to be the altruistic harbinger of good feelings and social well being? Walmart does what corporations are supposed to do. They provide services and products for a fee, a fee that is low enough to have firmly positioned them as
number 2 as far as revenue is concerned.
“Wal-Mart provides its associates both full and part time with affordable health care, $23 a month. We’re creating tens of thousands of jobs every year,” said a Wal-Mart representative told NewsChannel 8 in a phone interview.
$23 a month! I work for a respectable corporation in the mortgage inductry, and for me alone is was about $50. Now that my wife is part of my benefits package…it’s $200+ a month. Is that a good deal? Probably not as good as it could be, but you know what, I couldn’t find any laws that required that employers give affordable healthcare to their employees, and I also didn’t find any law requiring that the employees continue to work for corporation like Walmart…but somehow, they choose to.
Ms. Williams, the Wal-Mart spokeswoman, said the rallies would not resonate with voters. Democrats, she said, were “attending a union-sponsored protest with small crowds of faithful union activists, and there is not a swing vote in sight.’’
“They are preaching to the choir,” Ms. Williams said.
The
NY Times article on the same event pointed out the fact it was a union sponsored event (Walmart has no union) and there was little attendance anyways. Maybe the Democrats might learn that attacking the very establishment that provides affordable products to the middle class, might not be a way to secure the vote of the middle class. As far as shutting other “mom and pop” stores down…when was the last time the corner deli:
- Had lower prices than Walmart
- Had a better selection than Walmart
- Paid their employees an average of 20,000 per year (non management)
- Offered health care…period.
The only people who would complain about Walmart are the ones rich enough to be able to shop at specialty boutiques…rich enough to complain about the plight of the middle class…I’m so happy rich Democrats know what’s best for Americans.
God I hope Biden runs for President. It’s a win – win situation…dumb statements provide never-ending fodder for the blogosphere, and there’s no chance in hell he would win!
