I was in my high school homeroom class the day Tehran announced it released the remaining 52 American hostages in January 1981. Feigning acceptance of the terms offered by the Algiers Agreement, it was clear that the Grand Ayatollah Khomeini’s arms were far too short to box with the newly inaugurated President Reagan. I was proud to re-elect The Great Communicator to a second term… the only vote I’ve never wanted to take back.

Now, the Persian “Empire” is once again thumping its chest in an attempt to find its niche in the international conversation. Quoting Margaret Thatcher:

“Democratic nations must try to find ways to starve the terrorist and the hijacker of the oxygen of publicity on which they depend.”

I’m not interested in dissecting the Persian spin doctors’ anecdotes. Nor am I much concerned with how their conversation is disseminated. I’ve seen enough to know that a rabid dog must be contained before being put down. What gets me hotter than Angevin ire is the fact that this unapologetic hostage taker’s leash was amply loosed so he could wag his tongue on American soil!

When is enough, enough?
