Rise of a Dictator

August 15th, 2007

From Pablo over at PW-Pub:

Well, he’s finally about to do it. Presidential term limits are about to be eliminated. This has been predicted for years as the Constitution is shredded and the nation descends into dictatorship. This evil thug is finally appointing himself Emperor and the notion of Democracy is dead. All true patriots will weep at the death of this once proud nation.

Bush has done it! He’s burned the constitution and spat on the intentions of the founding fathers. Fascism is seeing it’s resurgance under the Bush dynasty and it’s cronies! Boogah boogah boogah!

chavez.jpgNah, just kidding, it’s Chavez who’s doing away with Presidential terms. Liberals can relax, and now support their favorite Socialist buddy…because if you agree with Chavez, who cares if he does what would make you crap your pantalones if Bush did it.

The removal of term limits for Mr. Chávez, which is at the heart of the proposal, is expected to be accompanied by measures circumscribing the authority of elected governors and mayors, who would be prevented from staying in power indefinitely, according to versions of the project leaked in recent weeks.

Read: I can stay in power forever, but no one else can.

As Mr. Chávez, 53, settles into his ninth year in power, images of him have become impossible to avoid here. On billboards, posters and murals, he is seen hugging children, embracing old women, chanting slogans and plugging energy-saving Cuban light bulbs into sockets.

Has there ever been a good leader who was posted propaganda posters where they hug children and old ladies? Isn’t that the first sign of bad things to come?

Still, Mr. Chávez has faced serious setbacks at home and abroad even as his approval ratings remain relatively strong in Venezuela. His decision forcing a major television network critical of him off the public airwaves triggered student protests across the country in May and June.

His men violently took over the station and shot into crowds of protestors. Outrage? Of course not…you have to break a few eggs in a socialist revolution.

Read the article, and tell me how Chavez’s actions don’t fit this definition: “a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.”

Where would we be without random websites created to advance us…all of which, of course, have vague “Hitchhikers Guide..” references.
