The Quest For Knowledge

December 5th, 2006

Why do I run this site?

A question was posed recently on what my motivations for a single post were, but I’ll universalize it into why I run this website altogether. It’s not for the money, though I wish it was there…it would be fantastic to make money off of just keeping up to date and espousing my opinions, but I’m not (click on the google ads people!).

So why do I take time every day to post…well…uninteresting commentary on mainly uninteresting topics? I really don’t know for sure…other than it’s a hobby. Some people make trains, some make model cars, some collect baseball cards…I drink beer and talk Conservative politics. Do I plan on changing minds? No….though it’s nice if it happens. Do I enjoy being agreed with? Not really, or I wouldn’t have married who I married…because she sure disagrees with the fact she’s wrong more times than I am.

So it’s a hobby, an outlet, a break from the daily routine of number crunching…a way to exercise my brain, start conversation, get people and myself to think, whatever…

You don’t have share what you learn either. For me, the pursuit of knowledge isn’t just so I can show it off later and say, “Hey guys, guess what I know.” The only situation where that’s fun is if it’s movie and especially music trivia…then I can flex the brain and show off…but for the most part, nobody cares who the current or past ambassador to the UN is, and you can’t “Win Friends and Influence People” by talking political shop most of the time.

It’s fun…’nuff said.

Hey, t’is a post neo-cons and neo-libs can all agree on! Let’s sing koombayah and then call eachother queers and nazis again!

Here here, brotha. ‘Tis fun indeed, even if our genuine passion for our political perspectives tells us not to admit such a thing.
