Why I Am A Conservative
I believe that the individual bears the responsibility of their actions. Everyone has had bad things happen to them, what defines a person is how they deal with it.
It is not the government’s job to use my money to pay my neighbor, it’s the governments’ job to make sure that they roads are paved, and when I drive those roads to work, that I’m safe.
I believe in freedom of religion in the public place, not freedom from religion.
Freedom of speech is not freedom from the consequences of such speech, so stop whining.
Affirmative Action is racist. If you want programs to help people, base them on economic situations, that way all people who need help get it.
Capitalism at its core is the only fair form of economic exchange:
Capitalism demands the best of every man – his rationality – and rewards him accordingly. It leaves every man free to choose the work he likes, to specialize in it, to trade his product for the products of others, and to go as far on the road of achievement as his ability and ambition will carry him.
-Ayn Rand
I think America should have a strong military. Simply because some people try to climb to your level of achievement, while others try to pull you back down to theirs. It’s the latter I fear.
Judges should not make the law. International sources for court decisions aren’t sources.
The right to bear arms shall not be infringed…but rocket launchers aren’t arms…those are more…torsos.
Prison is for punishment, not rehabilitation. If you’re in front of a judge, there’s probably already been plenty of “second chances” that you ignored to get there.
I support my beliefs with research, not feelings.
….
I’m sure I’ll think of more.

“The right to bear arms shall not be infringed…but rocket launchers aren’t arms…those are more…torsos.”
The original intent of the 2nd amendment was not to keep people armed for personal protection; it was to keep people armed so that they could revolt against a tyrannical government, and overthrow their oppressors as the founding fathers had. Do the people need to have tanks? Probably not. But they should have the ability to destroy tanks via mines, or rockets. Should the people have jets? Probably not. But they should have the ability to destroy jets and helicopters via SAMs.
Allowing the people to carry small arms is of little consequence when you command tanks, ships and jets. It’s a little extreme, but I think it’s the only conclusion one can draw when the spirit of the 2nd amendment is to keep an overly powerful government from overthrowing its people.
A government should fear its people, not the other way around.
You used research to describe why you say you’re a conservative. It didn’t come “from the heart,” it came from the page. You’re blatant disregard for one’s “feelings” is exactly why you don’t persuade me that you feel this way. If you “felt” this way, you wouldn’t have needed to do “research” to find the pros of cons.
Sure, you’ll say “I don’t want or need to persuade you, PR,” but then I’ll say “Oh, yes you do. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have made this post. Unless, of course, you did all this ‘research’ to preach to the choir?”
But to make a slight 180, I have to admit that there’s not a lot anyone can ever argue with in why you’re supposedly a conservative. Ayn Rand, the great Libertarian, is a great source to advertise what makes Capitalism so powerful. One coming from Communist Russia would automatically embrace their homeland’s sweet opposite.
But when one isn’t forced to witness the horrors of any idealism by means of their government, it becomes clear to them why Capitalism is an Idealistic idea like the rest of them. It has it’s beauty and it has it’s ugliness. And that’s exactly why America is so great: It recognizes that fact and balances it out with the two equally innocent and equally guilty political parties.
To see one of said parties as evil, trite, unnecessary and harmful to America is to be such adjectives as an American one’s self.
And that is why I am an Independent.
S’ok. there was a liberal and one his talking points tonight was that the US should have NO military whatsoever…ROFL!..nice post bro!
Huh? Wha? Whosa?
Are you saying people with “feelings” don’t need to know anything…I’m amply confused. I certainly have feeling on issues, but I base them on knowledge of the issues, and not whimsical passing fancies. One doesn’t need to do research to “preach to the choir”, one can do research just for the knowledge that research imparts. It’s good to just know things sometimes…even if that knowledge is never shared.
(*queue musing*) “The More You Know”
Did you just say “Whosa”?
Who-za is the proper way to pronounce it. Not to be confused with whoasa, which is more of a “the Fonz” type phrase.
(*queue music*)
Yet another way liberals are different from conservatives: We think the Fonz is cooler than Jar Jar Binks.
