Random for the Sake of Conversation
Television is becoming an unusual monster. Some fantastic shows that are being produced with movie quality effects and actor, and then you’re really…really…really crappy ideas for shows as well. Reality TV has morphed into the fat chick of the network, after a few drinks what started as you watching the CSI episode you recorded with your ever so fancy DVR ends up somehow as you sitting eyes bloodshot, watching the never ending replays of “The Flava of Love” or “Hogan Knows Best” (which it turns out is not in fact just a title of a show, but an accepted universal truth brother).
I acknowledge that I watch too much TV…but it’s better than the too much computer I use. The wife gets agitated when I lean over the computer browsing news stories, muttering about how liberals are truly trying to destroy America from the inside out. Why don’t they love this country? But I digress… The point of the conversation that I intend to have here is two fold…readers and casual visitors alike, I now propose questions to for us to address as a Light Box addled community. |
- What is the most entertaining network on Television?
- What are your top 3 television shows?
- What are the networks doing wrong?
This discussion in not meant to be an analysis of news corporations, as Liberals and Conservatives alike all agree that Fox News is truly the only fair and balanced news source out there, but instead, an outlet for likes and dislikes in the shared media experience.

I encourage Lost Theories, Heroes praising…and how Dexter may be the next best cable show. I know nothing of 24…so feel free to praise Jack Bauer, but I will only be confused and slackjawed if the conversation turns that way…Chinese who took who? What?
Carry on minions…

LOST and Battlestar Galactica via iTunes, no commercials!!!
Battlestar Galatica Babes (they’re hunks too ladies check it out for yourselves)
Le’ Oink,
GoingThere
1. Lost
2. Heroes
3. House or CSI (I can’t commit)
Most entertaining network? NBC seems pretty good for just shows…they have the Law and Order Dynasty.
The networks seem to be reaching that place where they look at themselves as artists, not entertainers, which means that if you don’t “get it”, you’re stupid…as opposed to entertainers, where if you don’t “get it”, they’re fired.
1. Wonder Showzen, the greatest kids show.
2. 24
3. LOST
4. Six Feet Under, despite it’s deadness.
Best network for comedy is Fox, for it’s sitcoms and news.
Best network for dramas, NBC.
HBO’s better than all of them combined though.
The only thing wrong with networks is that they acknowledge the FCC.
No choice but to acknowledge…because it’s the FCC’s job to make sure children aren’t exposed to “bad” television…not the parents. Go Nanny State!
1. Heroes
2. The Office
3. My Name is Earl
Saw the premiere of 3lbs last night… I’m intrigued. Not that that takes much, these days. Used to be a big Law & Order fan, but they totally jumped the shark with the “Is it because I’m a lesbian?” bit a few seasons back. And since Friday night is where network TV goes to die, I have to wonder if the original L&O is finally going to bite the dust…
Really Stout? Ah shucks, I thought they had a choice!
The best shows on TV are as follows:
1. Studio 60
2. LOST
3. The Office
4. Gilmore Girls (yes, I said it!)
5. Real Time with Bill Maher
6. Big Love
And my 2 guilty pleasures: Extreme Makeover:Home Edition and Desperate Houswives
I would have to say that NBC has the best line up for me personally right now, but I pretty much spread my love around equally.
In my opinion, we need more new shows like Studio 60, and fewer reality shows. But America seems to disagree with me, since reality shows are doing well, and they were considering doing away with Studio 60, which is smart and extremely funny. Go figure.
You spread your love around equally?
You slut!
fingers restrained, quivering over keyboard…smile on face…must not rise to bait…
TV is apparently trying to get better…competition?

It’s the production that just keeps getting better. Sitcoms are starting to go into the territoy I like (not live) with Earl, Office, Scrubs, etc…I don’t like “audience participation” when it comes to humor…as if the laughter is supposed to make it more funny for me.
1) CSI
2)CSI Miami
3) CSI New York
Stopped watching the networks some time ago when I realized that 99% of all network shows are written so that people of little or no intelligence can understand them. Hence, the laugh tracks. People have to know when something funny happened so that they can laugh. I spend most of my time watching the History channel, spike, A&E or Discovery channel. I miss the X-Files….Reality shows are like Monica Lewinsky…they really suck!!!
X-Files before Robert Patrick made it stupid. MULDER LIVES!
