Michael Steele for the chair of the RNC!? (h/t Allah at HotAir)

From the Washinton Post:

[L]ast night, Republican officials told The Times that Mr. Steele, who lost his bid for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, has been sought out to succeed Mr. Mehlman as national party chairman. Those Republican officials said Mr. Steele had not made a decision whether to take the post, as of last night.

Race implications aside (they’re there people, don’t deny the fact Steele being in the RNC shows black men and women everywhere it’s okay to step outside the gates of the Democratic compound) he came forward this last election cycle as one of the unfortunate casualties. He aggressively defending Republican values, didn’t “hide” from association with the President, and make it very clear what his positions were.

For me the head of the RNC needs to be charismatic, heavy on conservative dialogue, and a fantastic messenger for the conservative ideals…Steele has that. He’s young, he’s capable…here’s to hoping that we’re setting ourselves up for a win in 2008. We have to start now…start grooming the presidential candidates.

Could you just imagine, after seeing the videos of his debate skills, how Steele would be able to handle himself when put next to bumbling Dean on the Sunday talk circuit?
