The Stout Republican

The Foley debacle grows, and instantly what is a sad display of criminality grows into partisan bickering. Who knew what, when they knew it, and of course the mantra “resign, resign, resign.” Putting aside the fact that Foley was a gay man in the Republican party, it’s always easy to point the finger in retrospect, but imagine what kind of evidence must be gleaned to make a case against a senator on capital hill. To accuse a politician of a crime, especially to accuse a gay politician of a crime, the reality is, you’re playing with a PR nightmare…how do you avoid the perception of discrimination, even if the charges are legitimate? The situation calls for silk gloves, and hard evidence, of which we (as far as we know…we being the Republican party) had none.

Foley was a good member of congress as far as policy. It’s sad that this happened…

This of course hurts the Republican party…and should it? That’s for each voter to decide, and we’ll find out soon enough. Regardless…the 06 midterms are looking less and less attractive, and this Stout Republican has to fight finding solace in his various Stout Beers. It might be a good thing though…

I’m a Republican on paper. Less Government spending, more personal responsibility, my life is my own, my money is my own, etc…but my party hasn’t been there with me lately. Yes, the economy is doing well, and the markets are trucking ahead better than ever…but our Republican party…who is in control of the legislative and executive branch, can’t seem to veto a spending bill…ever. If there’s pork…add it. I can get all the good vibes in the world by reading the Republican platform (still 2004 on the dot com site)…but what does it mean today? It’s a way to get my vote…to keep the true believer in conservative ideals coming back to the polls, but once they get in office…that all changes quickly. It’s back to pork and parties, covering one’s own ass, and then the true display of bipartisan hand-holding, as they protect their own. Maybe it’s just the beltway bubble, and the rest of us are too stupid to “get it.” We’ll continue to vote for the because the alternative is just…(*shudder*).

Somewhere, a new breed of Libertarians is getting followers…we might see a third party coming up here…the fiscally conservative, socially liberal. There’s got to be at least one party that will reign in spending…and it certainly ain’t the Dems or Repubs…

The world continues to turn, and will continue to turn, politics of it be damned. I am and will continue to be a true blue conservative on paper…I believe what I believe deeply, and completely, and love to argue the points over a good lager…now does anyone know if there’s actually a conservative out there that I can vote for?
