Random Thoughts and Open Thread

July 25th, 2006

So in general it was a long weekend. The legs are fried because usually my walk consists of home to car, car to cubicle, cubicle to coffee, repeat in reverse. Wandering along the scenic Gas Lamp district was beautiful, since the gentrification of the city, it’s really become a pleasant place to visit, even through the throng of 100,000 at the convention.

Talked politics with some friends, then talked movies, then politics again…good times were had by all (except maybe the neighbors…). My brother picked up the movie “Old Boy” which he won’t stop talking about, and I’m supposed to make an effort to see…classic revenge flick, or so I’ve been told.

I just rearranged the artwork in my house (I’m a huge fan of local Aaron Kraten and have f o u r of his originals), so I could make room for an original Batman (cliché?) panel that I picked up. I’m an obsessive collector of good things old and new. In the mean time, I’m sweating like crazy due to the heat in Southern Cali (should I call Al Gore…does Al Gore even exist anymore?)

Here is what I’ve come to believe:

  1. You can in fact teach an old dog new tricks.
  2. Even an inexpensive first printing of The Great Gatsby is too expensive for me to buy.
  3. Women are not like fine wines…they’re more like a good beer. They have a born on date, and if you don’t appreciate them early enough, they just become bitter.
  4. Batman original pages cost more when you can see the Bat emblem on the hero’s chest…this took me an hour lecture from someone who looked kinda like this:

Great Israel news posted on Hugh Hewitt…read it to get up to date with Israel. There was a rally in LA here…both sides of the alley showing their support for Israel, and against the terrorists. That’s what I like to see people..This is an open thread, so post whatever your heart desires.
