Vitriol

So I decided I would visit the forums today, have some intelligent discussions, and a little educated debate. Boy was I wrong. I jumped around on the political posts on Craig’s List for a while, watching the discussions (haha) and trying to feel out the basic mood, before posting my own thoughts…big mistake. I have never seen a more rabid group of people who do nothing more than attack a person based on looks, personal actions, family, race, and sex. I mean, I know I’m supposed to feel absolutely nothing positive about being a white conservative middle class straight male, but good God…

I was called a sociopath. Why you might ask (or you might not and move on to my snazzy CD recommendations) am I a sociopath? I am such simply due to the fact that I have no hardcore views on issues that “don’t affect me personally.” So I figured maybe that I had the wrong definition of what a sociopath was…so I looked it up.

so·ci·o·path – n : someone with a sociopathic personality; a person with an antisocial personality disorder (`psychopath’ was once widely used but has now been superseded by `sociopath’)

So I figured move on to psychopath…that’s what the definition demands.

psy·cho·path n. – A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse.

Such an observation was gleaned (and I think fully believed) by a liberal who spent most of the time I observed him jumping on random conservative ideas/people and attacking the people personally. When I decided to put up a few posts, I became the target. Now, as I’m sure readers on both sides of the aisle know, debating liberals requires absolutely no knowledge of current events, or political process, or history for that matter. It requires you to use multisyllabic words, and aggressive rants that are meant to make a person feel inferior or degraded. See example here.

I wonder why, when I’ve had a couple of good Guiness’s’sss (Guininii?) in me, that I feel the urge to have a well structured framed debate on politics, with…frankly…retards. Georges Clemenceau (a Frenchman shockingly) once said “If you don’t vote socialist before you are twenty, you have no heart – if you do vote socialist after you are twenty, you have no head.” Well, I went through my early phase in high school where I felt the virtues of the government meant everyone should be guaranteed success, but that was back when I believed that the government’s role was to take care of it’s citizens. Instead, the government’s role is to give citizens the opportunity to take care of themselves in the way that best suits them.

Maybe my expectations are too high.
Maybe liberals are the way they are because they never got past the juvenile period of arguing with authority.
Maybe the people who I’m around just enjoy redistribution of wealth, because they never want to earn it.
Maybe they believe what they believe because no one’s ever challenged it.

I hate to break it to you, but conservative is the new “Punk Rock” (to use the lingo I used to 5 years ago). Honestly…if you’re in public, it’s more socially acceptable for you to have pink hair and a nose ring than it is for you to be in California and say that you support George Bush (not entirely, but mostly). It takes more balls to let a coworker know that you lean to the right, than it does for you to explain in detail exactly what you did with your significant other last night. You can introduce yourself as any number of things…just as long as those things don’t put you in line with the real “evil empire” (shhhhhh….the Republicans). I’m sickened…

Bring it on.
