AP Criticized by Senate for Gore Comment

June 28th, 2006

The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works has criticized the Associated Press for their article about “An Inconvenient Truth”, raising “serious questions about AP’s bias and methodology.” It comments on how several aspects of the film are blatantly false, and how some of the source material is defined as “junk science”

“In the interest of full disclosure, the AP should release the names of the “more than 100 top climate researchers” they attempted to contact to review “An Inconvenient Truth.” AP should also name all 19 scientists who gave Gore “five stars for accuracy.” AP claims 19 scientists viewed Gore’s movie, but it only quotes five of them in its article. AP should also release the names of the so-called scientific “skeptics” they claim to have contacted.”

Wait wait wait….are you asking that the MSM quote their sources…how dare you! The scientific sources are just as protected as those who have leaked the information to the New York Times…that’s how sources work, they never need to be produced, but we can be guaranteed based on scout’s honor, that they’re telling the truth.

I think the point that people are just now starting to grasp, and the basis for our (meaning those on the right…) anger with the Main Stream Media is the fact that as an unelected body, they feel they have the right to dictate to us what we need to know, what is true, and what is not. There was no agency (short of the blogosphere) actually regulating the “truthfulness” of the media, and now that their absolute control of the information flow is being checked, they’re gradually imploding. Hugh Hewitt addresses the meltdown happening at the New York Times, but what people need to understand is this isn’t exclusive to politics. Yes, we have Dan Rather and his poor sourcing, we have Mary Mapes, and her statement that the burden of proof is not on the writer of the story, but on the consumer to disprove those writings, but we also have Joe Schmo who writes out of Smalltown, USA who is still part of the same establishment.

The Media God mentality is starting to crash down, and the flames are going to be glorious. How are the networks going to deal with the fact that more attention may very well be given to the Little Green Footballs, or the DailyKos sites of the world. Their model is flawed, and they can’t even begin to fix it until they make step 1: Admitting they have a problem.
